How Can I Easily Amend My Will?

Feature Main Image

You should review your will periodically, especially when your life or family circumstances change or you move to a new state.

There are two ways to amend your will. One is to write an amendment, called a codicil, which explains the changes you are making. It must be in writing, signed and witnessed while you are of sound mind. The other way is to sign a new will that specifically revokes all prior wills and codicils. Make sure you destroy the old will.

Do not attempt to change a will by marking it up with additions or deletions. This will create nothing but confusion and legal headaches for your heirs.
