Is my Social Security survivor's benefit affected if I also receive a pension based on my deceased spouse's noncovered work?

A pension you receive based on your deceased spouse's noncovered work will not affect your Social Security survivor's benefit. However, if you are entitled to a widow's or widower's benefit under Social Security and you also are entitled to a government pension based on your own noncovered earnings, Social Security will reduce your widow's or widower's benefit by up to two-thirds of the amount of your government pension. For more details, see Government Pension Offset (Publication No. 05-10007).
