Companies are generally required to disclose when they’ve been involved in significant litigation, but it’s not always easy to find. Companies generally discuss ongoing litigation in their annual report, also called a 10-K. You can find these reports on the company’s Web site, under investor relations.

You can also find them at www.sec.gov. Click on Search for Company Filings. Next, click on Companies and Other Filers. Type in the company’s name or ticker symbol, then click on the company’s name. Finally, look for the company’s latest 10-K.

To find lawsuits that have been filed since the annual report was published, check the company’s Web site for press releases, either under investor relations, media, or newsroom.
