A "homeowners' association" is a corporation or other type of organization consisting of homeowners in a given subdivision or neighborhood. These associations are tasked with defining rules and regulations pertaining to the upkeep of homes in the subdivision, and they typically also govern what type of structures and incidental businesses may be created in the subdivision. Homeowners' associations typically charge dues which each member must pay monthly or yearly, and these dues may also go toward maintenance of common areas or community property.
